Blame and claim

Mounting whiplash claims are dramatically inflating insurance costs, which could be dramatically cut if the government took action to restrict these claims. This is the conclusion in a recent report by the House of Commons Select Committee. This is supported by an LV= Car insurance survey, which found a 60% increase in fraudulent road injury claims as reported by GPs over the past 2 years.

This is not to say that many people do not suffer genuine injuries in road accidents and The British Chiropractic Association is aiming for better diagnosis and management of these injuries.

Part of a regulated profession chiropractors are perfectly placed to quickly diagnose and start treating the muscle and joint problems resulting from a road injury, helping people to recover quickly and reducing overall costs to the insurer.

Recently a study* showed that chiropractic management could decrease the pain and improve the outcome for these kinds of injuries.

BCA Chiropractor, Matthew Bennett commented:

“…Whilst Parliament looks at ways to reduce an escalating burden to the insurance industry, the British Chiropractic Association urges insurance companies to also review all the processes involved with managing accident injury claims, as there are opportunities to greatly improve the situation for them and their customers.”
